On February 9, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohuri participated in the workshop entitled “Armenia-Iran relations in the context of common interests”, which was dedicated to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Iran.
The ambassador referred to the opening of the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” imposed by Azerbaijan, noting: “Armenia and Iran are neighbors, are and will be neighbors. Of course, certain tricks are observed, they talk about so-called corridors and some actions, but Iran and Armenia will not allow such a corridor to be created… We must also be proactive. We need to see what new steps we can take. We should not wait for a new idea, for example, to open a corridor, before deciding what position to adopt. In other words, we should not allow such a thing.”
The ambassador called the establishment of the Iranian consulate general in Kapan, and soon the opening of the RA consulate in Tabriz, an exemplary action in that regard.
Referring to the information spread in the Azerbaijani press that Armenia and Iran are allegedly preparing a joint attack in the direction of Lachin and Kubatlu, Zohuri emphasized that the Iranian side never wanted and still does not want to create tension in the region. The ambassador urged the mass media to refrain from such headlines and articles that may cause additional tension. “Iran can give a small slap to the small countries that are trying to create problems for themselves. But the Iranian authorities prefer not to act under the influence of emotions. They are quite wise and discreet in their actions.”
“As for the military situation, I assure you that Iran is carefully monitoring all border realities,” the ambassador said.
Iran’s regional policy aims to contribute to stability and not harm it. The diplomat emphasized that the opponents should not be allowed to initiate a game, they should start and conduct it themselves. Opponents of Iran and Armenia want to create chaos and divert the attention of the leaders of the two countries. The most effective counter to those attempts is the coordinated actions of Armenia and Iran, including the constant exchange of information.
